Project Background
A European heating appliance manufacturer needed a custom segment LCD for a wall-hung boiler controller. The original TN display was readable only within a narrow viewing cone, which generated service calls from installers working in cupboards and basements where the controller sits at an awkward angle.
The customer wanted a VA segment display with wide viewing angle, a fixed icon set for boiler status, and a glass outline that dropped into the existing front panel mould without tooling changes.

Our Solution
We developed a custom VA segment display from the customer's drawing: icon layout, viewing angle, polarizer type and pin assignment were defined together with their mechanical engineer, and a glass tool was cut to the existing panel opening so no mould change was needed. Because segment LCD tooling is developed in house and production runs in the same plant as our TFT and e-paper lines, the customer keeps one supplier for the controller display, the service display and the user interface panel.
Every lot is inspected against a signed golden sample covering segment contrast, viewing angle and icon completeness, under our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Material compliance for our LCD products is independently verified by SGS against EU RoHS Directive (EU) 2015/863 with the result Pass, which the customer attaches to their own appliance declarations.
