Product Description
1.3 Inch 128x64 OLED Display Module, SSD1306, SPI / IIC / Parallel 1. Product Description

This display emits its own light. Each pixel is a stack of organic layers sandwiched between an anode and a cathode; when current flows through the stack, electrons and holes recombine and the material luminesces. There is no backlight, no polariser and no liquid crystal shutter, so a black pixel is simply a pixel with no current, which gives contrast that a transmissive panel cannot reach and leaves the module 1.4 mm thin. The SSD1306 integrates row and column drivers with 128x64 bits of graphic display memory, so the host writes a frame once and the panel holds it with negligible refresh traffic. The 128x64 grid on a 29.42 x 14.7 mm area with a 0.23 mm pixel pitch suits two lines of text plus an icon row, and because emission is Lambertian, the image stays readable from any direction without the grey inversion a TN cell shows at an angle.

3. Applications

Compact instruments use this size for a reason: it fits a hand enclosure. Handheld meters, wearable readout pods, portable audio players, medical patch monitors, field analyzers, gas sniffers and instrument sub displays all need a monochrome readout that is legible from any angle and does not wash out under a bench lamp or disappear in a dark cabinet.

4. Advantages

Four attributes decide the choice. Self-emission removes the backlight, its diffuser and its inverter, which cuts the bill of materials and eliminates a common failure point. Contrast is effectively unlimited, so a warning icon reads as a hard-edged shape rather than a grey patch. Full view direction means an operator at an awkward angle still sees the same image. And 1.4 mm thickness with a 30 pin solder tail lets the module sit behind a window in a sealed housing.

5. Functions

The module shows text, icons, bar graphs and simple animation in white on black, accepts 3-/4-wire SPI, IIC or an 8-bit parallel bus, and exposes SSD1306 commands for hardware scroll, inverted warning states, dim mode and partial display on, so a ticker can animate without the host repainting the buffer.

6. User Manual

Bring-up is short. Strap the interface, apply the supply, send the SSD1306 initialization sequence for that bus, set the multiplex ratio and contrast, load the GDDRAM, then enable the display. On IIC confirm the slave address and the pull-up values before the first transaction; on SPI confirm the data/command line polarity, since a swapped line produces a blank panel that looks like a dead module.

7. Precautions

Organic emitters age in proportion to the charge pushed through them, so a static bright logo held at full contrast for hours leaves a visible shadow. Lower the contrast where possible, use the screen shift command, respect the -40 to +70 C range, and keep the solder tail clean and strain relieved. Do not apply reverse bias above the datasheet limit during power sequencing.

8. Shipping

Shipments take 5-10 working days after payment. Sample quantities travel by express with tracking, volume orders by air or sea, and output of about 100,000 pieces a month covers repeat instrument programs.

9. Payment Terms

T/T, L/C at sight and Western Union are accepted; samples are prepaid and production follows a deposit plus balance against shipping documents.

10. Packaging

Modules ship in anti-static trays with a glass protective film, foam cushioning and a moisture barrier bag inside an export carton sized for a hand assembly line.

11. Purchase, Return and After-Sales

Minimum order is 10 pieces. First power-up failures are replaced after photo confirmation, a 12 month warranty covers manufacturing defects, and our engineers advise on bus choice, contrast settings and burn-in limits.
