3.7 Inch 240x416 E Ink Display Module UC8253 Controller 4-SPI 24 Pin Digital Badge Screen

At 3.7 inch the display becomes a small poster, and the physics does not change: microcapsules hold charged pigment in a clear fluid, the waveform lifts the wanted colour to the surface, and the particles stay once the field is gone. What changes is the driver: the UC8253 generates the multi-level waveforms a 240x416 panel needs for black, white, red and yellow, and holds enough frame memory that the host writes only changed content. The 47.04 x 81.54 mm active area works out at about 133 pixels per inch, which is dense enough for a paragraph of body text rather than a single price line. The module runs from 2.2 to 3.7 V over 3-/4-wire SPI, connects through a 24 pin 0.5 mm FPC, weighs 8.5 g and sits in a 1.0 mm body, so it can be carried rather than only mounted.

Meeting room plates show a schedule and a booking name. Conference badges show a name, a role and a QR block. Portable price boards show a menu. Equipment tags show a maintenance date. Hotel door cards show a room number. Each is handled or hung on a hook, and shows more text than a shelf tag can.

The 133 ppi density is the first advantage: this panel carries a real paragraph, which a 128x296 module cannot do without unreadable type. Second, the UC8253's four-colour waveform makes red and yellow usable for headings. Third, at 8.5 g and 1.0 mm it works in a badge holder or a laminated door card, not only a rail. And 2.2 to 3.7 V covers a lithium or an alkaline pair without a converter.

The module shows paragraphs, headings, QR codes and colour bands, takes SPI image data, supports full refresh for a page change and partial refresh for a time or a name, and keeps the frame with the power removed. Partial refresh is what makes a meeting room plate practical: a booking change repaints only the time block, so the room name and the QR code stay stable and the battery spends nothing on them.

Bring-up: apply the supply within 2.2 to 3.7 V, release reset, load the UC8253 initialization and waveform table for 240x416, set the address window, stream the frame, then refresh. The UC8253 is not an SSD1680 part, so an existing driver will not work; confirm the command set and the booster configuration before the first build, and check that the four-colour waveform is selected rather than the black and white one.

Do not exceed 3.7 V, and never cut power during a four-colour refresh, which leaves a half migrated image that only another full refresh clears. Keep within 0 to +50 C, avoid bending the panel across the active area when it is carried in a badge, and protect the FPC tail from repeated flexing. Store flat, and let a cold unit reach room temperature before refreshing to avoid condensation on the film.
