Product Description
1.28 Inch Round 240x240 IPS TFT LCD, GC9A01, 4-SPI, 12 Pin, 350 Nits 1. Product Description

A round LCD is the same light valve technology cut to a circle. Each of the 240x240 pixels is a liquid crystal cell with its own transistor, lit by two white LEDs and read through polarisers, with RGB filters above. The IPS layout keeps the crystal rotating in plane, so a dial holds its colour at any angle, which matters when a wrist decides the viewing position. Making the array square but the glass round means the four corners of the frame are simply outside the visible circle, so firmware draws a circular interface and the corners never appear. The GC9A01 controller holds the frame RAM and the timing, the interface is 4-SPI over a 12 pin connection, and the 32.4 mm active diameter with 0.135 mm pitch gives a smooth curve with no visible staircase at the rim.

3. Applications

Watch faces show hands and a step ring. Thermostats use the dial for a setpoint and an arc for the mode. Audio knobs show a volume ring. E-bike gauges show speed with a rev arc. Speakers show a track and a level ring. The circle is functional: an arc maps onto a dial, where a rectangle leaves dead corners.

4. Advantages

The geometry is the first advantage: a round bezel with a round display needs no masking and no black border artwork. Second, 240x240 on a 32.4 mm circle gives about 187 pixels per inch, enough for thin hands and small ticks. Third, the GC9A01 clips arcs in hardware rather than software. At 350 nits with two LEDs it suits an indoor instrument within a wearable power budget.

5. Functions

The module renders a circular UI with hands, arcs, rings and 65K colour images, takes 4-SPI writes, supports partial updates for a moving second hand, and dims through PWM. The visible area is a circle inscribed in a 240x240 frame, so a host writing the full buffer needs no clipping, while an optimised one uses window registers to touch only the changed arc.

6. User Manual

Initialization: apply 3.3 V, release reset, load the GC9A01 table for 240x240, set the address window, stream the frame, then enable the backlight. Draw the dial geometry once at boot and store it, so a running instrument only repaints the hand. Inspect the rim after assembly: a round panel pinched by a circular bezel shows a bright crescent where the cell gap closes.

7. Precautions

A round cell is mechanically less forgiving than a rectangle: keep the bezel pressure even around the circumference and never clamp on the glass edge, or the rim will show discolouration. Stay within -20 to +70 C, do not exceed 3.6 V, drive the two LEDs with a proper current limit, and keep adhesive out of the bond area when laminating a cover lens.

8. Shipping

Orders ship within 5-10 working days after payment, with express for prototypes and air or sea for series. Capacity of about 100,000 pieces per month supports gauge and wearable programs.

9. Payment Terms

T/T, L/C at sight and Western Union are accepted. Samples are prepaid; production runs on a deposit plus balance against the bill of lading.

10. Packaging

Panels ship with a protective film, in anti-static trays with round foam seats to protect the rim, sealed in a moisture barrier bag inside an export carton marked per model.

11. Purchase, Return and After-Sales

Minimum order is 10 pieces. Arrival damage is replaced after photo verification, a 12 month warranty covers manufacturing defects, and we provide the GC9A01 initialization table and a bezel pressure guideline with each order.
